The Reincarnation of The Red Plum|Synopsis

Screenwriter: Tong Tik-sang

Lee Wai-neung, a concubine of Minister Ga Chi-doh, meets a young scholar named Pui Yu at West Lake. Wai-neung rejects Pui’s advances, but as he leaves, she compliments him for being a handsome young man. Wai-neung’s jealous husband Ga Chi-doh overhears his concubine’s admiration for the scholar. In a rage, he kills Wai-neung, and hides her coffin in the Red Plum Mansion.

Later, Pui encounters tavern girl Lo Chiu-yung, whose beauty so resembles Wai-neung’s that he mistakes her for his new love. Chiu-yung quickly falls for Pui. At the same time, Ga also wants to take Lo to be one of his concubines. Pui then advises Chiu-yung to feign madness to trick Ga. After meeting them both, Ga dismisses the apparently crazy Chiu-yung and retains Pui in his mansion.

Chaos quickly mounts as Pui encounters the ghost of Wai-neung. They eventually fall in love. Ga’s nephew Ga Ying-chung reveals the hoax of Chiu-yung’s madness to Ga. Furious, Ga sends him to kill Pui and then arrest Chiu-yung, but Wai-neung’s spirit helps Pui escape. Wai-neung also helps Ng Gong-sin escape from Ga’s torture by showing him as a ghost. Then, Pui and Wai-neung flee to Yangzhou to meet Chiu-yung, only to discover that she has just died of lovesickness. After Wai-neung’s spirit is reincarnated in Chiu-yung’s body, she is brought back to life. In the end, Pui and Wai-neung get married.
